I support Homeschoolers!

I used to think there wasn't a more challenging or demanding job than being a stay-at-home mom. Then I became a homeschooling mom! The year I spent homeschooling our kids was both the most rewarding and the most challenging time of my life so far. I obsessed over curriculum choices, searched for the perfect co-op, and planned many field trips (all this while maintaining my speech practice!). I answered the questions from people in the library about why my kids weren't in school and well-meaning friends wondering whether or not they were getting enough socialization. I choked up as I watched my daughter break the code of the English language and read her first word and marveled as my six year old son figured out on his own what a square root was.
The best part of homeschooling to me was that the kids could work at their own pace and their own level. I knew what their learning strengths were as well as their challenges. And on more than one occasion, I called a math-genius friend of mine to help me better understand math skills so I could in turn lead my son (who as it turned out always seemed to lead me).
Sometimes as homeschool parents, we reach a road block through which we alone are not able to guide our children. If you have a child who is struggling with speech, language, or phonemic awareness (pre-reading) skills, please feel free to contact me. I offer individual and small group therapy as well as consultations.
(It was a tough decision for us, but our children are now in a small local private school. And though I miss having them with me everyday and watching them discover the world around them, they are thrilled with their new school environment)
